Computer technology plays a large part in today’s society, with most people now owning a smart device of some sort, be it a Smart phone; Tablet; Laptop or Desktop computer. A lot of our day to day business, such as bill paying, looking for new service providers, obtaining quotes for things like insurance and indeed shopping are now all conducted online.  These tasks require some knowledge of the Internet and the Digital world and the devices in it.

This course in Basic ICT (Information & Communication Technology) & Digital Skills caters for those with no previous knowledge, or those who have a basic understanding of computer technology and would like to expand that knowledge.

Course Content

  • Switching on and shutting down a computer
  • Component parts of a computer
  • Using a computer safely
  • Using a mouse and keyboard
  • Moving around in a Windows environment
  • Accessing an application
  • Using Microsoft Word
  • Basic typing skills
  • Internet basics
  • Email basics

Who Should Attend

  • Anyone who has little or no knowledge of computers and computer technology
  • Anyone who has some knowledge of computers and computer technology but would like to refresh or expand that knowledge


  • There is no formal assessment for this course

Entry Requirements

Participants must:

  • have a good understanding of both written and verbal English
  • have access to a computer or other smart device on which they can practice at home
  • bring photo ID with them

Duration:                     2 hours per week over 5 weeks

Accreditation:           Carnew Training & Consultancy In-house certificate of attendance

Validity:                       Certificate has no expiry date
