PESTICIDE APPLICATION TRAINING
Course Description
We offer two Pesticide Application Training courses, Handheld Sprayer and Boom Sprayer. Both courses will enable the participant to become a “professional user” and once successfully completed, participants will be required to register with the Department of Agriculture. http://www.pcs.agriculture.gov.ie/sud/
Handheld Sprayer – This course has been designed to help participants develop the knowledge and skills necessary to apply pesticides using a handheld sprayer in accordance with legislation and recommended safety practices.
Boom Sprayer – This course has been designed to help participants develop the knowledge and skills necessary to apply crop pesticides using a boom sprayer in accordance with legislation and recommended safety practices.
Course Content
Handheld Sprayer:
- Effects of the infestation of pests (weeds, diseases, insects, and vertebrates) on crop growth and quality
- Control methods available to farmers and growers
- Categorise pesticides for crop production
- Principles and procedures for the safe handling, storage, application, and disposal of pesticides
- Laws and regulations
- Record keeping
- Interpret pesticide label information
- Prepare a handheld applicator for work including calibration
Boom Sprayer:
- Controlling pest infestations & their effects on crop growth and quality
- Categorise pesticides
- Laws and regulations
- Principles of application technology
- Interpret label information
- Create a pesticide spray mix in accordance with good practice
- Application of a pesticide mix with a boom sprayer
- Storage of a boom sprayer and PPE
- Prepare boom sprayer for work, including calibration
Who Should Attend
- Anyone who uses pesticides either for personal or use or in the workplace
- Anyone who plans to use pesticides either for personal or use or in the workplace
Assessment
- On-site practical assessment by Instructor
- In-class written assessment by Instructor
Entry Requirements
Participants must:
- have a good understanding of both written and verbal English
- have the relevant PPE (i.e. Sprayer Suit; Gloves; Goggles)
- bring photo ID with them
- Register with the Department of Agriculture upon successful completion of the course. http://www.pcs.agriculture.gov.ie/sud/
