PESTICIDE APPLICATION TRAINING

Course Description

This course provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely and effectively operate handheld pesticide sprayers for agricultural, horticultural, landscaping, and pest control applications. Learners will gain an understanding of pesticide handling procedures, sprayer components, calibration techniques, application methods, and environmental protection measures.

The training covers relevant health and safety requirements, personal protective equipment (PPE), pesticide label interpretation, equipment inspection and maintenance, spill response procedures, and best practices for minimising risks to operators, bystanders, and the environment. Participants will also receive hands-on instruction in sprayer setup, operation, cleaning, and storage.

Course Content

• Identify the components and functions of handheld pesticide sprayers.
• Select and use appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Read and interpret pesticide labels and safety data information.
• Prepare, mix, and apply pesticides according to manufacturer and regulatory requirements.
• Calibrate handheld sprayers to ensure accurate application rates.
• Perform routine inspection, maintenance, and cleaning of equipment.
• Implement safe work practices to prevent contamination, exposure, and environmental harm.
• Respond appropriately to spills, leaks, and emergencies.

• Agricultural workers, grounds maintenance personnel, landscapers & pest management technicians
• Anyone responsible for applying pesticides using handheld spraying equipment either for personal use or in the workplace

Assessment

• On-site practical assessment by Instructor
• In-class written assessment by Instructor

Entry Requirements

Participants must:

• have a good understanding of both written and verbal English
• have the relevant PPE (i.e. Sprayer Suit; Gloves; Goggles)
• bring photo ID with them
