Our MEWP course also includes Working at Heights.

This practical, industry-aligned course equips participants with the knowledge, skills and attitude needed to safely inspect, set up, and operate Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWPs), such as scissor lifts and boom lifts, in compliance with current legislation and site best practices. Blending classroom theory with hands-on assessments, the program builds confidence in planning and executing work at height while minimising risk to people, plant, and property.

Our RTITB (Road Transport Industry Training Board) accredited  Instructor will deliver this course on your premises, using your equipment.

Course Content 

  • Identify MEWP types, components, controls, and safety devices.
  • Conduct pre-use inspections and function tests, documenting defects appropriately.
  • Plan safe work at height: ground assessment, load limits, wind and weather, exclusion zones, rescue planning.
  • Operate MEWPs safely: positioning, travel, elevation, platform management, and emergency descent.
  • Safe Use of Ladders
  • Apply relevant regulations, manufacturer guidance, and site rules.
  • Communicate effectively with ground personnel and implement traffic/pedestrian management.
  • Respond to emergencies: entrapment, tip/near-tip, power failure, and controlled evacuation.

Who Should Attend

  • New or occasional MEWP operators needing foundational training and certification.
  • Experienced operators seeking refresher or conversion training across MEWP categories.
  • Supervisors, spotters, and safety personnel who oversee MEWP operations.

Assessment

  • On-site practical assessment by Tutor during course
  • In class written assessment by Tutor during course

Entry Requirements

Participants must:

  • have a good understanding of both written and verbal English.
  • be 16 years of age or older.
  • bring photo ID with them.
  • wear Safety Boots
  • bring appropriate PPE (Tutor can provide these if necessary) – Helmet; Hi-Vis Vest; Harness & Adjustable Restraint Lanyard.
